VS – Comanche Nation en Otoe-Missouria Tribes blijven casino’s exploiteren ondanks de uitspraak van de rechtbank

By - 12 oktober 2020

Despite the state Supreme Court ruling there operating licences are invalid, the Comanche Nation and Otoe-Missouria Tribes plan to continue operating their casinos in Oklahoma.

De staat en de stammen zijn al maanden met elkaar in conflict over de vraag of het bestaande pact op 1 januari afliep, terwijl de stammen beweerden dat het met nog eens vijftien jaar zou worden verlengd.

Attorney Rob Rosette, representing the tribes, said: “The compacts are valid. That’s our legal position. The Supreme Court of Oklahoma does not have jurisdiction over either one of these tribes.”

He added that only a federal court would have the authority to void the compacts.

The Oklahoma governor’s office said it couldn’t answer questions about the impact of the state Supreme Court ruling on Comanche and Otoe-Missouria gaming operations.

“We cannot answer those yet as those compacts are being litigated in federal court,” said Charlie Hannema, chief of communications for the governor’s office.
Federal lawsuits have been filed in Washington D.C. by the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw and Citizen Potawatomi Nations.

Comanche Nation Entertainment has five Oklahoma casinos: Comanche Nation Casino, Comanche Red River Hotel Casino, Comanche Spur Casino, Comanche Star Casino and the Comanche Nation Travel Plaza.

The Otoe-Missouria Tribe runs five casinos; the 7 Clans First Council Casino, the 7 Clans Paradise Casino, the 7 Clans Chilocco Gasino,
The 7 Clans Red Rock Gasino, and the 7 Clans Perry Casino.
